WHY SILA LAW

The Case for a Specialist Inheritance Practice

Not all legal advice about inheritance comes from practitioners who spend every working day in this particular field. We do. The difference is evident in the depth of the analysis, the accuracy of the advice, and the care taken with the documentation.

OVERVIEW

What Sets Sila Law Apart

Inheritance Only

We work exclusively in this field. No diluted attention from other practice areas.

Everything in Writing

Advice, scope, and findings are all committed to writing before action is taken.

Direct Practitioner Access

Clients deal with the practitioner managing their matter, not with intermediaries.

Fixed Fees, Stated Upfront

No hourly billing uncertainty. Each service carries a clearly stated fee.

Cross-Border Capability

We regularly handle matters that touch more than one legal system, including foreign wills and documents.

One Working Day Response

All enquiries receive a substantive response within one working day.

Expertise That Comes from Sustained Focus

A practitioner who handles one hundred inheritance matters develops a very different quality of knowledge from one who handles five. At Sila Law, inheritance is the only work we do, and has been since 2016. The cases we have seen — straightforward and complex, agreed and disputed — have built up a fund of practical knowledge that no general practice can easily replicate.

Thai inheritance law contains provisions that are easy to misread if you encounter them rarely. The interaction between Thai law and foreign legal systems produces complications that require specific experience to navigate. Document authentication involves procedural requirements that change from time to time and differ between authorities. These are areas where accumulated familiarity matters.

WHAT THIS MEANS IN PRACTICE

Advice that reflects current Thai legal requirements, not a general understanding of the field

Analysis that identifies the specific provisions applicable to your family's circumstances

Documented familiarity with authentication authorities and their current requirements

Experience of how Thai courts approach disputed inheritance matters

HOW WE COMMUNICATE

Responses to all client communications within one working day

Written updates at agreed intervals for matters extending beyond two weeks

Communication available in English and Thai

Direct access to the practitioner handling the matter

A Service Built Around Communication

One of the most common frustrations in legal practice is not the legal outcome but the experience of being managed at a distance — receiving infrequent updates, dealing with different staff members at each contact, and never being certain where things stand. We have organised Sila Law specifically to avoid this.

Each client communicates directly with the practitioner handling their matter. We commit to a one working day response time for all communications. For matters that extend over several weeks, we provide written updates at agreed points so that the family is always informed.

Fixed Fees, No Surprises

Hourly billing creates an inherent tension between the interests of the client, who wants the matter resolved efficiently, and the practice, which benefits from the matter taking longer. We work on fixed fees for each of our three services, set out before the engagement begins.

If the scope of a matter changes materially from what was agreed, we discuss any adjustment in writing before additional work is undertaken. There are no charges that have not been agreed in advance. Families dealing with an inheritance are already managing a great deal. Billing uncertainty should not be among their concerns.

Statutory Distribution Counsel ฿16,500

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES

What We Do Differently

The Written Analysis Commitment

Before any distribution is made, any document submitted, or any proceedings commenced, we provide a written analysis of the matter as we understand it. This is not common practice; most legal advice is given verbally. We believe families deserve a documented record they can read, review, and keep.

Stage-by-Stage Outcome Assessment

For disputed matters, we reassess the realistic range of outcomes at each procedural stage. Circumstances change. New documents emerge. We do not allow an assessment made at the beginning of proceedings to go unreviewed as the matter develops.

Bilingual Practice, No Translation Delays

We work natively in both English and Thai. For international families or expatriate residents, this removes a common source of delay and miscommunication. There is no need for a separate translator; the advice you receive is given directly in your language by the practitioner handling your matter.

No Pressure on Pace

We do not create urgency where none exists. Families sometimes need time to gather documents, to consult with other relatives, or simply to absorb what has happened. We proceed at the pace that is right for the matter and the people involved — not at the pace that is most convenient for the firm.
